Functional Fluency Team Development Program

Become a Licensed Systemic Functional Fluency Team Developer. Drive systemic impact.

The Functional Fluency Team Development Program is a bespoke 8–9 month journey designed for professionals who want to go beyond standard coaching. You won’t just learn a model; you will develop your "Self as an instrument" - learning to sense, observe, and intervene in the complex dynamics of real teams.

What does the program provide?

This program bridges the gap between individual behavioural effectiveness and systemic organisational impact. You will gain:

  • Licensing: Official status as a Licensed Systemic Functional Fluency Team Developer.
  • The toolkit: Access to the initial Status-quo questionnaire, the FF TeamScan© and the 6 Dimensions of Team Effectiveness framework.
  • Systemic mastery: The ability to navigate the "Undercurrents" of team dynamics and align them with stakeholder value.
  • The "Self as an instrument" edge: Deep personal work to ensure your presence as a developer is intentional, neutral, and impactful.

Program Structure

A blended learning approach designed for deep integration and flexibility:

  • Live online modules: Interactive, expert-led sessions focusing on the 8 core modules.
  • Self-paced learning: Access to recorded content and deep-dive materials for theoretical grounding.
  • Supervision: Personalised guidance to help you navigate your work with your practice team.
  • Peer groups: "Learning Pods" to share insights, practice interventions, and enhance the collective experience.

Application: The practice team

Unlike purely theoretical courses, this program requires you to work with a real-life team throughout the journey. You will apply every module - from the initial intake, through the FF TeamScan© to behavioral and systemic interventions - in real-time, ensuring that by the time you are licensed, you have already proven your capability in the field.

Wherever possible, participants will work in pairs with their practice team. This collaborative approach not only reflects the relational nature of team development itself, but also creates valuable opportunities for shared reflection, co-facilitation, mutual feedback, and learning through partnership. It allows participants to experience Functional Fluency not only as a methodology for teams, but also as a way of working together effectively in practice.

Who is it for?

  • Experienced Team Coaches looking for a robust, behavioural reality assessment framework.
  • Organisational Consultants moving into systemic team development.
  • HR & L&D Leaders who want to build internal team-effectiveness capabilities.

Overview of Modules

Module Focus: The Work Self as an Instrument: The Developer
1: Foundations Teams in context, creating value for stakeholders, and the 6 Dimensions. Recognising personal assumptions: "How I see shapes what I see."
2: Observation Seeing clearly using the reality assessment questionnaire based on the 6 dimensions of team effectiveness. Distinguishing observation from interpretation and managing bias.
3: The FF TeamScan Understanding and applying the behavioural data from the  FF TeamScan. Staying curious vs. certain; avoiding projection onto the data.
4: Intake & Contracting Facilitating the intake and the 5 levels of contracting. Balancing structure and flexibility; e.g. noticing the urge to over-control.
5: Deep Sense-making Debriefing patterns, the Team Iceberg, and systemic invitations. Managing the urge to "fix" or "rescue"; holding space for discomfort.
6: Focus & Direction Identifying leverage points and prioritizing high-impact interventions. Recognizing personal bias in choosing focus vs. team ownership.
7: Intervention Supporting behavioural change and working with resistance in daily work. Adjusting behavior in real-time; responding rather than reacting.
8: Mastery (Licensing) Sustaining impact, influencing the wider system, and final licensing. Using presence deliberately under pressure; working with power.

Transformation stories

I did the TPLT because I wanted to be able to use an assessment tool founded in TA theory. The course has improved my confidence in talking about Functional Fluency and broader TA theory in coaching, educational and organisational settings. The buddy group gave great opportunities to practise, share ideas and gain mutual support. The supervision provided was invaluable throughout the process.

If you want to work with behaviours with your clients, the TIFF tool has great rigour and research behind it. Clients ‘get’ the Functional Fluency model and can access its value to their development immediately. It’s visually engaging and stimulates good dialogue. The language is easy to transfer into any setting, especially the workplace. The Functional Fluency International community is also passionate and engaging.

I particularly appreciated the attentiveness and commitment of the trainers and the supervision was invaluable. The course has helped me look at my own behaviour – when I act effectively and when I lose my energy. I have gained a valuable tool to work with professionally.
