Functional Fluency Systemic Team Developer Program

Launch Special: EUR 3,200 (Save 33% by joining our inaugural cohort).

Become a Licensed Functional Fluency Systemic Team Developer

A team is far more than a collection of individuals.

It is a living system in which purpose, relationships, behaviour, unspoken dynamics, stakeholder expectations and influences from the wider organisation are continually interacting.

Working systemically with a team therefore takes the work to an entirely different level. A team developer needs to be able to see the team in its wider context, understand what is happening beneath the surface and recognise how behaviour is supporting—or getting in the way of—the value the team needs to create.

At the same time, team developers need to understand how they themselves influence the process. Their presence, assumptions, responses and interventions all become part of the work.

The Functional Fluency Systemic Team Developer Program is a practice-based, eight-to-nine-month development journey for professionals who want to deepen or extend their systemic work with teams.

What will you learn?

The program integrates four areas of learning:

  • Understanding teams: You will explore relevant theory about teams as living systems, including teams in context, stakeholder value and the Six Dimensions of Team Life.
  • Assessing the team’s reality: You will learn to use the Reality Assessment and the FF TeamScan© to gather information, recognise behavioural and systemic patterns and understand what may be enabling or inhibiting team effectiveness.
  • Facilitating team development: You will learn a coherent methodology for guiding a team-development process—from intake and contracting through systemic sense-making, identifying leverage points and facilitating interventions to reviewing progress and sustaining change.
  • Developing yourself as an instrument: You will deepen your awareness of how your presence, assumptions, responses and interventions influence the process, enabling you to work with greater intention and responsiveness.

How will you learn?

The program combines:

  • Live online modules: Interactive sessions focused on the eight core areas of the program.
  • Self-directed learning: Recorded content and supporting materials that provide theoretical grounding and prepare you for the live sessions.
  • Supervision: Guidance and reflection to help you make sense of what is happening with your practice team and decide how to respond.
  • Learning Pods: Small peer-learning groups in which you can share experiences, explore questions, practise interventions and learn through partnership.
  • Immediate application: You will work with a real team throughout the program, applying what you learn as the team-development process unfolds. This enables you to test your understanding, reflect on your experience and adapt your approach in practice.

Working with a practice team

An essential part of the program is working with a real team.

Ideally, you will bring a team you already work with or identify a team that would welcome the opportunity to take part. If you do not currently have access to a suitable team, we can explore with you how one might be found.

Throughout the program, you will apply your learning with this team—from the initial intake and Team Reality Assessment to the FF TeamScan©, systemic sense-making, focused interventions and the evaluation of progress.

Wherever possible, participants will work in pairs with their practice team. This creates opportunities for co-facilitation, shared reflection, mutual learning and feedforward. It also enables participants to experience Functional Fluency as a way of working effectively together, as well as a methodology for team development.

By the time you complete the program, you will have gained substantial, supervised experience of applying the methodology in practice.

Who is the program for?

The program is designed for:

  • Experienced team coaches who want to integrate a robust behavioural and systemic methodology into their work.
  • Organisational development professionals who want to deepen their capacity to work with teams and the wider organisational system.
  • Organisational consultants moving into or extending their work in systemic team development.
  • L&D professionals whose work includes team and organisational development.
  • Experienced coaches and people-development practitioners who are ready to extend their practice from working primarily with individuals to working systemically with teams.

What will the program make possible?

What you will gain as a practitioner What teams and organisations will gain
A coherent methodology for seeing and working with the complexity of team life.

A clearer, shared understanding of how behaviour, team dynamics and the wider system are affecting effectiveness and stakeholder value.
Practical experience gained by applying your learning with a real team throughout the program. A development process grounded in the team’s reality and integrated into its daily work.
Greater confidence in recognising and making sense of behavioural and systemic patterns. Previously unspoken patterns and undercurrents can be brought into the open, understood and addressed together
Increased awareness of how your presence, assumptions and interventions influence the process. Development that supports the team’s agency and ownership rather than creating dependence on the practitioner.
Practical tools for assessing reality, identifying meaningful leverage points and tracking development. A structured way to establish priorities, review progress and support sustainable change over time.

Following successful completion, you will become a Licensed Functional Fluency Systemic Team Developer.

Transformation stories

I did the TPLT because I wanted to be able to use an assessment tool founded in TA theory. The course has improved my confidence in talking about Functional Fluency and broader TA theory in coaching, educational and organisational settings. The buddy group gave great opportunities to practise, share ideas and gain mutual support. The supervision provided was invaluable throughout the process.

Sarah Lowes

Excalibur Development, United Kingdom

If you want to work with behaviours with your clients, the TIFF tool has great rigour and research behind it. Clients ‘get’ the Functional Fluency model and can access its value to their development immediately. It’s visually engaging and stimulates good dialogue. The language is easy to transfer into any setting, especially the workplace. The Functional Fluency International community is also passionate and engaging.

Kate Shaw

Sure Potential Limited, United Kingdom

I particularly appreciated the attentiveness and commitment of the trainers and the supervision was invaluable. The course has helped me look at my own behaviour – when I act effectively and when I lose my energy. I have gained a valuable tool to work with professionally.
