Ian Howells

Working with children and families, the importance of attachment to a significant other is paramount to a child's or adolescent's future development, socialisation, and differentiation into adulthood. The quality of a client’s attachment is fundamental to the issues they bring to therapy.

I associate Functional Fluency with Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto. This illustrates what’s going on in ACCOUNTING: Voice upon voice, upon another voice, all influencing the outcome.

My Professional background:

Bachelor of Social Work in the area of children and families, a Master's in Counselling, working in employee assistance program provision and private counselling practice.

Why I chose Functional Fluency:

Initially, I saw Functional Fluency as a tool to lift parenting skills and emotional literacy awareness. This then led to the potential impact on the workplace, colleagues, and organizational culture.

How I use FF / TIFF / GOTM:

I use Functional Fluency as a potential assessment tool to identify areas where significant problems may arise, as well as responsibility-taking and motivation to change. Taking this approach clearly illustrates to both the client and the therapist what needs to be worked upon.
